Quilting Mojo is back!

Hi, everyone.

Well I am pleased to tell you that I have found my quilting mojo - hurray!

I have 2 quilts underway (yes 2 its seems to be a feast or famine with me !!) and I thought I would let you have a little peek - they are very different in style, design and colours.

They are still to be finished but the quilt tops are finished and I am awaiting batting to finish them off.

Is anyone else the same? Please say yes and then I will feel heaps better and not like some strange weird woman!

Ok I have proably lost most of you by now - I am talking about the commonly recognised condition of 'Quilt Fever' - bet I had you worried there for a mo!

I think it is possibly something to do with Christmas being over and the cold weather check here to see what I mean.

To give you an update on how this 'quilt' looks as of today, yep exactly the same except I have taken off the cute Moda ribbon and the ribbon has been made into this

and the fabulous, full of dreams of cozy nights under a gorgeous quilt kinda looks like this

OK moving swiftly along.

This is my latest (and no I wont tell you when I started this one lol) attempt at quilting and it is for my eldest son so that makes it worth finishing - right?

This is a quilt pattern called There's a Square in There by Kate Conklin. I'm still not sure about the colours so I have decided to try a completely different backing so that it becomes double sided - wish me luck I may be gone some time!

How are you?

I hope everyone had a great time over the festive period - I know I did. A great time for families to get together, eat too much, not do too much!, do lots, a bit of sickness too and of course squeeze in some crafting.

I have sewn so many things coming up to Christmas but I didn't get any photos, purely because I couldn't find my memory card for my camera, but it has been relocated now - thankfully, so sorry no photos of pre Christmas :(

I made some patchwork Christmas table runners for some good friends (again no photos!) and really wanted one myself so I sewed up an extremely quick one but I am happy with it, so I guess that is what counts.

One other thing I have always wanted is a tree skirt. I know that there are plenty around in the shops but I really wanted one, sewn by me. The pattern is from here (unfortunately her store is closed until 31st December).

The fabric I used came from a fat quarter selection that I had bought in October (yes I have been planning it all that time) called Isabelle by Anna Griffin. I bought some but not all of the range and also used this range for my table runner too.

I love it. It looks so great under the Christmas tree (PS I only got the tree skirt finished late on 28th December ahem - lol), who cares I'm now all set for Christmas 2012 :0))

I have so many UFO's that I am determined to get finished this year and I am now making a pledge not to buy any more fabric until I use what I have in my stash already ( unless of course the fabric is so cool that I have to buy some and also if it is areally good price, because that would be just plain silly not to buy some - right !!!!).

A Great Day Out

Yesterday, myself and a few friends, set off for Dublin to the Knitting and Stitching Show.

We had a great day and enjoyed ourselves. I also made a few purchases during the day, not too many because I am exercising restraint as I have so many fabrics and lovely craft items already!!!

I must say that one of my favourite purchases was these fabrics from Oakshott Fabrics, these are like nothing I have ever seen, or bought before, they are amazing. I have tried to show the colours, but the colours are so much nicer in person and they also have a slightly two tone or sheen effect to them.

If you are a fan of solids then you will love these and even if you dont I think you will still love them.

I bought this selection to make this pattern, I forgot my camera or I would have shown you the Oakshott stall, it was stunning.

This pattern is very different to what I normally do (and I am a little nervous about attempting it), but I couldn't resist and once I get a few projects out of the way I am going to have a go.

I also bought some gorgeous stretchy mini ruffle trim, so cute

I also took a little mini workshop on one of the stalls and tried something new, to me, with embroidery - and I loved it I think I see myself doing more of this in the future.

This was the first time I have been to the show in Dublin and I really enjoyed it. It was a long day starting around 6am and then home again after 8pm (we went on an organised coach and ticket package organised by The Wool Shop - thank you to them it was great).

I hope everyone survived Hallowe'en last night. It was strange we had some who shouted 'Trick or Trick' some who sang the traditional 'Hallowe'en is coming and the goose is getting fat' there were some who made an effort and some not so much, but all in all a good night.

My goodness its been a while since I blogged but life kind of carries you along and sometimes its hard to slow down.

I have been busy with all sorts of things like sewing, quilting, and a bit of decorating so I hope that excuses me for not blogging.

I know that Hallowe'en is over for another year but I have to share these links with you that I found they are fabulous!

Sweet Harmony

I was given this pattern as a present and was really late about sewing it up. I had the fabric that I knew I wanted to use so this post on the Sew Sweetness blog really spurred me on. This is great blog to read, so many sewing tips and techniques explained so that even I can understand them go have a look.

I used the Sweet Harmony pattern by Amy Butler using bliss bouquet fabric in emerald for the outside and inner pockets, lining fabric sunspots in grass also Amy Butler (regular readers of this blog will not be surprised by me using Amy's fabrics and patterns - love them !)

This is lovely pattern to sew and I am so happy with the fabric choices.

I can see this brightening up many an outfit.

It sits very comfortably on my shoulder and is big enough, without being enormous as many of Amy's patterns are, to carry everything around that I need.

This is the finished bag (sorry too late in the day to take a photo, the light is not good).

There is also a little mobile phone holder inside the outer pocket.

Love this as I dont have to rummage around in my bag to find my phone.

This is a close up of the side of the bags showing the handle details.

As well as the two outside pockets, and the mobile phone pocket, there are 4 inside pockets with an option in the pattern for a zippered pocket. I know some people like zippered pockets but I prefer to see exactly what is in my bag rather than having to check zippered pockets - guess I'm just lazy lol

A Few Bargains

Hi everybody, I hope you are all enjoying the summer, such as it is lol!

I wanted to show you my bargains, I love bargains.

This is a roman blind that I came across in my local Laura Ashley (one of my favourite shops) and saw this roman blind (plus cording and rail all ready to go) and it was reduced from £125 to £60 - I thought thats not a bad price and then I turned it round and it had been reduced further to £42.

So here it is in all its glory, I love it.

One of my other bargains, from a visit to Kildare Outlet and more than a few pounds spent in the Cath Kidston shop, amongst other things, I bought this bag. It is a very soft charcoal velvet with flowers and I love it! The only down side is that I must have slopy shoulders as it keeps sliding down my arm (non fabric handle - I think it may be vinyl or something) - or perhaps it is all those years of using my fabric bags with fabric handles that stay on my arm- but I still love it and it was only €30!

I think it has a lovely vintage look to it.

Desperately Seeking ......................

UPDATE: My lovely friend Carole at Prim n Raggedy found just the right fabric for me so I have ordered, thank you so much my search is over.

I am in love with this fabric, Amy Butler of course, and I am desperately looking for some yardage.

I don't know why but I always seem to love a fabric after it has stopped being printed!

If you have seen this fabric anywhere or have a couple of yards/metres lying around unused I would be delighted to hear about it.

Dress a Girl Around the World

I was doing my usual wandering around the internet and came across this charity (via the Sew Scrumptious Blog) who are asking people to sew up a simple pillowcase dress (full pattern and colour photograph tutorial included) to send to little girls around the world.

I immediately felt that I could sew up a few dresses. I haven't made any dresses before (I have 2 sons so never really had the opportunity) but I have been assured they are very simple to do.

Mmmmm Green and Raspberry - love it!

You know whenever you see a colour combination and you think Wow!

Well, this is what I thought about this combination of raspberry and green.

Whenever I had decided to join in the Sew Spoiled Cabrio Tote Sew-Along I knew I wanted to use some of my stash. I loved the fabrics when I pulled them out but it was not until I had the bag sewn together that I thought - boy that really works!

I used the raspberry for the straps, bottom, lining and top of the bag and then used the green floral for the body and strap converters.

I am really, really mega late in finishing this (in fact the finishing date was some time in March) sew-along but I am so glad I did.

This super bag is two bags in one. It is a shoulder bag which then converts into a handy backpack - hands free whenever you need it - very clever!

As with all of Leah's Sew Spoiled patterns they are PDF (no snail mail so no stalking the postman).

They well written with clear instructions, suitable for anyone, clear instructional photographs accompanying each step - I can thoroughly recommend all of them.

I have something lovely to show you all, well I think so anyway!

Let me introduce the Amy Backpack. This is the first backpack that I have made and I don't mind telling you that I was more than a little wary. I used this pattern from Chris W Designs (I am very proud to be one of her pattern testers) and I can honestly say it isn't scary at all. Once again Chris W Designs patterns are very well explained with lots of helpful photographs.

I used Amy Butler's fabric (of course lol) Cypress Paisley in the colourway Blush from her Love range of fabrics. The inside lining fabric is a pale pink solid colour. There are lots of pockets in this backpack - two side elasticated pockets, one outside elasticated pocket, a zipped pocket on the outside and inside the bag is another large pocket.

I gave this backpack to a friend's daughter and she was delighted with it, so I am happy.

Bella Bag ....................

I have been wanting to show and tell you all about this bag for quite some time and at last I can!

This is the fabulous 'Bella' bag made from a pattern designed byChristine at ChrisW Designs. I have had the pleasure of testing the pattern for Christine and I can wholeheartedly say that it was a pleasure. This super pattern is very well explained and the end result is a bag that looks so professional.

The main delay was that I was waiting on bag hardware coming from China and as yet they have not arrived, but luckily for me Lisa at U-handbag got some back in stock. So I was ready to finish my bag.

The lovely red outer fabric is by Cath Kidston, and from my stash, and the lining is Hannahbella from Robyn Pandolph (two coordinating fabrics).

I just love the pockets in this bag. There are 2 elasticated pockets on the sides, 1 large pocket on the front, a zipped pocket and behind that another pocket, and two other pockets on the inside. On the back there is a zippered pocket, pretty much a bag with pockets for everything you need and more. I am amazed at how much I can pack into this bag (I'm very much the kitchen sink kind of girl).

I also have been testing another pattern, for a backpack, I have just finished it and I will be back to show you that soon.

Another Decision Made .......

Ok, I have now made a decision on what fabrics to use for the Cabrio Sew- Along.

I was determined to use fabrics from my stash and I had been holding onto this yummy piece of fabric for a while, and I think this might be the perfect use for it.

I just love the green with the raspberry. I have cut off the selvedge so sorry I can't remember the names of the fabric designs, although I do think the green floral one is from Free Spirit.

I also have been having great fun with new patterns from a great designer ChrisW Designs.

I have just finished sewing up the Bella bag and I am just waiting for some bag hardware to arrive and when it does I can't wait to show it you.

ChrisW Designs patterns are simply explained, super photos and you get a very professional looking and sewn bag.

One Decison Made ..........

I have decided on the fabric choice for the Postage Stamp Quilt-Along and I am going with the Pure Jelly Roll by Sweetwater and a White Bella Solid Jelly Roll.

I am hoping that they will work well together and now the cutting begins.

Have you Tried This Yet?

First of all if would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

OK now onto explaing the title bit .......................I have seen demonstrations, online, of how this works but I have never tried it until now!

My lovely hubby bought me this kit for Christmas, isn't he a sweetie, he knows I love sewing bags or anything in fabric for that matter.

I was so excited (mention fabric and it doesn't take much lol) and set to sewing it up right away. There is a little bit of preparation to be carried out first, diagonal stitching across the whole length of fabric and then the fun part. After the diagonal stitching, with my fabric, wadding and shrink fabric sandwich, you fire up your steam iron and steam (the iron never touches the shrink fabric) the shrink fabric side and hey presto before your eyes the fabric starts to shrink and pucker (in the nicest way).

Here are a photos of the process, they aren't great photos as it was at night time. and I was very impatient lol.

and this is the gorgeous shrinky look that you get get when you steam it.

I forgot to photograph the finished bag (silly me) but as soon as I do I will post a copy for you to see.

I have also ordered a small fortune worth of fabric from the internet (note to self, must remember to hide all evidence of new fabric before hubby comes home!!!!!! ).

More Christmas Decor ....

I have a few more little corners of my Christmas decor that I would like to share with you, so stick around if you would like a little look.

I love my fireplace, but more so at Christmas time.

I have a raggedy garland which I drape across the front of my mirror and hanging from that are 2 special decorations that I received in a swap last Christmas.

These 2 stockings I made a few years ago but I hang them every year with my 'Merry Christmas' bunting (I'm really into bunting this year!).

I was away last weekend with some friends, we were worried about whether we would be able to reach our hotel and then when we arrived we were worried that we wouldnt get home, due to the snow.

It is a fabulous hotel and spa and we had a fabulous time.

I left my camera charging at home! but I took these photos with my camera of the stunning grounds at the hotel.

A beautiful river runs through the grounds, you can just make it out and is a very popular spot for weddings(I'm sure you can see why).

So on that snowy and Christmassy note I would like to wish everyone a very

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I'm sorry but it has been quite a while since I have blogged but I have been very busy, I promise.

I have had a couple of successful craft fairs and that means lots of sewing into the wee small hours for me. I honestly don't mind but it is lovely to have a few minutes to catch up reading blogs and also to think 'I don't have to sew unless I really want to!'

I would just like to thank all of my customers, both online and the lovely customers I have met at craft fairs for their custom and lovely comments - thank you I really appreciate each and every one of you!

Here is a photo of one of my recent craft fairs. I'm sorry its not one of my better photos but the sun was shining right through the windows.

I have never had a circular table before so that was a bit of a challenge, but I think it looks ok.

Now that all of the fuss and preparations for the fairs are over I now have had time to think about Christmas and yikes I am so under prepared I am scared to think about it all. If anyone knows of any helpful little elfs that would come a weave their magic, I would be most grateful for their help.

In the New Year I have some decisions to make, mostly to do with how my little crafty business is going. I am so pleased that people like what I love to create, but as I have a day job as well, I need to decide which direction I want My Calico Heart to go. So keep watching this space and after I have had a little think I will let you know what I have decided.

OK, thats a lot of words and talking so if any of you are still awake, I thought over the next week or so I would show you some Christmassy corners of my home. I have only, just this weekend, started decorating the house for Christmas, a bit late, but it is starting to look a lot like Christmas ho ho ho!

I have 3 sets of lights on my tree, but one set has now decided not to shine brightly, and its too much trouble to take them off again!!

The white bag around my tree is designed to pull up over the tree which in theory will catch all of the needles so I wont be hoovering them up in July - I will let you know how it performs.

These cute little zinc decorations are new this year, I bought them from Ebay, and I just love how they look on my tree.

Busy, Busy

I don't know about you but did you suddenly wake up and think oh my goodness its October - How did that happen? At times it seemed that September was dragging its feet and then whoosh its gone!

Anyhow I have been busy sewing. A good friend of mine had a birthday a few weeks ago, so of course, I made her a bag. I just love this fabric it is from the Lantern Bloom fabric line by Laura Gunn. It is so lovely, and please take my word for it that the colours are so much nicer than they appear in my photograph (especially as I nearly forgot to take a photograph and it was then taken in a rush).

Can you feel a nip in the air yet? Although day time temperatures have been warm, some days have been warmer than July and August, it cools very quickly at night time. I have been wearing my fluffy socks at night, to keep warm. I don't like to wear slippers! I do like Autumn but I think I would like it better if it wasn't followed by Winter! I do not especially like winter, especially here in N Ireland when winter is usually grey, wet and dark. My favourite time of the year is Spring because I know that winter is over lol

Nearly forgot to show you something else I have sewn - a baby quilt for another good friend's son and his partner and their new little baby boy.

I love the fabric in this quilt (especially the lambs), I can't remember the names of the fabrics but it was a kit that I bought from Buttonberry, if you are after 1st class customer service then shop here.

Walled Garden ...

Near where I live the local council have made a beautiful walled garden.

This beautiful garden has been planted in an area that you would definitely not have found atttractive.

One, kind of, sunny afternoon hubby and I went for a dander around and these are some of my photos.

This garden reminds me of one of my favourite books and films as a child 'The Secret Garden'. We spent a lovely hour or two here and day dreamed for a while.

Pretty Maids All in a Row .......

Do you remember that nursery rhyme? I'll explain later.

It sprung to my mind this week as I have been trying very hard to destash (I mean really hard, I may need counselling to get me over the loss!). I have some lovely craft items that I bought in the great hope that I may make use of them but I haven't so they are here now waiting for a new home.

Another area that needed some attention was my jumbled mess of ribbons and trims, I am nearly embarassed to show you this photograph but here goes

But now they look like pretty maids all in a row.

I can't take the credit for this idea and I cant remember where I saw it but I'm gad I did. I think they look so pretty now, like little ladies in party dresses - yep I have completely lost the plot - lol

Do you have any other handy or decorative storage tips? I would love to hear them, I think I need to hear them.

Strawberries and .............................

I have always wanted a hat, a big hat, for sunny days sitting in the garden with butterflies fluttering around as I drink a nice cold glass of chardonnay! Yes, I am a dreamer but I found a pattern that was just perfect, just in case this idyllic moment ever presented itself.

The pattern in question is Amy Butler's Blue Sky Hat and I love it. I took my usual time (forever) to choose my fabric and had many piles on my table of possible choices but I decided on a Cath Kidston strawberry fabric, perfect for summer days!

I was more than a little worried about making this pattern up as it looked quite complicated but it actually came together without too much stress (more on that stress later lol). The pattern called for duck cloth which I had never used before but tracked some down in the Cotton Patch. If like me you aren't great at reading instructions through fully, as instructed at the beginning of the pattern, then you will probably recognise some of the problems I had. The crown section is made up with six pieces, 3 of which are sewn together and then the 2 sections are sewn together - my version, try to sew all pieces together - not good, but I caught on with the lining pieces and it was so much easier!

The next little section of stress was sewing the exterior of the hat with the lining, simple I thought I make bags like this all the time - easy peasy! Wrong! I managed to sew the exterior to the lining no problem - right - wrong I didn't leave a gap to turn the hat through to the right side lol. I fixed this by having to use my trusty little seam ripper (my best friend and trusty tool) and making a turning gap. All sorted and voila my summery fantasy hat was created.

I sat back and admired it and then my mum admired it and guess what it has gone home with her, for her to wear. So I guess it is back to the sewing pattern and machine to make a summer fantasy hat for me.

I alos forgot to say that the hat is reversible so I made the crown lining with a red and white polka dot.

PS - This is the reality photograph taken of my back garden, yes that is torrential rain (in July), maybe I should make hat number 2 in oil cloth or laminated fabric to match my welly boots - lol.

Loving Pleats!

I'm not sure that I am loving pleats. I have finished my day job for a few weeks and I always like to make my work colleagues a little something for the summer.

I first saw this tutorial for the gathered clutch by Noodlehead
and I thought yep this is what I would like to make them. It looks lovely and Noodlehead assured us it was easy - right. Lets just say that I might have to try a few more before I'm completely happy. My friends loved them so I am happy enough, here they are

I love all of the different fabrics so maybe I will give it another go - lol

Craft Fair Update and Other Things .........

I can't believe it has been two weeks since my last blog - I'm a naughty girl lol.

Here are some pics of my table set for the craft fair, I thought you might like to see them.

It was a lovely day and I met some lovely crafters, so I had a great time and helped a good cause

- what could be better!

I also made some little momento craft gifts for the teachers involved in my local primary school production of the Wizard of Oz - I really think that Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber would have been impressed with the whole production.

Weekender Tote Pattern Finished

At last I have finished the Weekender Tote Sewalong. The official finishing date was actually yesterday but I never seem to get things done on time so at least its only 1 day late - sorry Leah!

These were my fabric choices Daisy Ditty (the floral), Iron works (the Lime), both by Michael Miller, and the micro dots - whoops I can't remember the designer name sorry!

This was the scary bit! I was really nervous about cutting so much fabric away so I checked and rechecked, pinned and repinned and then took the plunge - phew it was right, panic over!

This is the outside of the bag sewn together and waiting for the lining to be added.

I made a slight change to the pocket on the inside. As I was using the same fabric for the lining and the pocket I thought I would add some of the lime green fabric to the top of the pocket - I think It works and it just breaks up the black on the inside.

This is my finished bag! I love it and I think I would definitely sew this bag again. The instructions are very clear and the photographs are especially helpful if you are a more visual person like myself. This bag has quite a zesty feel to it and I can't wait to use it.

Feeling the heat ...

Oh my goodness it is hot this weekend - look at that blue sky! The temperatures are some what above our normal average for the month - and I love it! I am not a sun worshipper but I love to be out and about and I know it definitely lifts my mood. I have bought some plants to put into baskets and pots and a few to scatter through the borders too. I love the cheeky little faces of the pansies (one of my favourites) and the colours. So here are a few just waiting to be made comfy in their new surroundings.

Not much happening on the crafting front. My excuse is that it is too nice to sit indoors and sew although I may bring some things to cut out into the garden with a nice cool drink. I am behind on my Sewspoiled sew-a-long, I promise I will catch up soon. It has been a very busy week in my day job and I have been sewing for that in the evenings aswell. I am also trying to get prepared for a craft fair next month (19th June Conlig Church Hall) and this will be my first craft fair in the middle of the year and not at Christmas so I really have to think about what I will be making to take with me. I somehow don't think that people will be interested in frosty snowmen or cosy red santa's lol.

This is a photo from my garden, I can't show you the whole garden as it looks a bit rubbish (I plan to work on it this summer honest) but I thought you might enjoy this photo of my solanum.

I am also hoping to visit this fabulous place
Mount Stewart House and Gardens later this afternoon. It is the most fabulous National Trust property with the most beuatiful gardens and it is a particular favourite place of mine if you are in the area you really should visit.

Okay, I think I have decided ....................

.........on my fabric for the Sew Spoiled Weekender Sew- a-long Tote - yay!!!!

I know that I am little late posting this, but, I have had some technical difficulties with my computer, but, dare I say it I think I have sorted it out - fingers crossed

Anyone who knows me will realise that this is no easy task for me, that being choosing fabric. So I kept looking and looking and deciding and changing my mind a million times and came across this piece of Michael Miller. It is called Daisy Ditty and I have had it in my stash for some time now and I just didn't know what to make with it. I hunted and hunted through mountains and mountains of fabric (trust me this is no exaggeration lol) and kept going back to this one piece of fabric.

I have decided to team it up with a lovely plain black fabric (can't remember where I bought it) the black and white dotty fabric is Classic Black by Sweetwater for Clothworks and the lime green swirls (I love this one too) is another Michael Miller called Iron Work.

So I think that this tote will be a touch on the zesty side but I think it will look good.

I was also considering doing a second tote to run alongside this sew-a-long but I keep changing my mind on what fabric to use. I had considered using some of my all time favourite fabric lines Wuthering Heights, but I'm not sure if it will suit this style of bag - so its 'hey ho, hey ho its off to do some more fabric mountain climbing' in my stash - oh the joys lol.

Have a look at some of the other fabric choices that people joining in in this sew-a-long are using here. I love this part of the sew-a-longs. I love the fact that we are all using the same pattern but everyone's personality and fabric choices make the bag look so different, and no two are the same! Also sometimes I see something and think 'Hey, that looks good I wouldn't have thought about putting those colours together!' who doesn't love a bit of inspiration -I know I do!

A Big Thank You, an Award and an Apron .........

I have two people that I would like to thank this week. The first is for the 'Sunshine Blog Award' awarded to me by Jenny at Winnibriggs House. The other was a surprise email from a talented jewellery maker on Folksy. She very kindly chose me (or rather my paisley coasters!) to feature in her Folksy Friday on her blog. Go have a look at the other paisley items she has selected and also have a look at her gorgeous jewellery shop Blue Forest Jewellery, she is very talented.

In keeping with the last few weeks I have sewn up another pattern that has been sitting in my pattern stash for a while it is the Hostess Apron by Fabric Boutique, its a PDF pattern so you get it really quickly!. I just loved the fabrics she has used in her tutorials and felt very inspired to make something similar.

I used Olive Rose fabric from Valori Wells, I have been saving this in my stash for a great pattern so I thought I would use it for this apron. I know it is bright but I just love the combination of the brown and the blue together. The only difference to the pattern is that I didn't put on the pockets as I didn't want to cover up those gorgeous roses. She explains a clever way to enclose all of those raw edges and it works really well! It is a really great pattern to sew up, and the instructions were clear and well explained and I love the front tying bow - yummy!

Getting Ready for Easter............

I have made a start in preparation for Easter, this is really very early for me, so please be impressed!

I have had this pattern for a while now, no surprise there I hear you say, and as the sun is shining I thought I would give it a go. It is a pattern called Harriet Rabbit from Kim Kohler of Veenas Mercantile. It is quite a prim pattern but I decided to make it a little more country in style.

I had some really springlike homespun in lemon with a purple check and also some lovely soft lilac check, I have them so long I can't remember where I bought them from.

Kim's instructions are for calico for making Harriet, and then painted a dark colour, but I had some super dark coloured calico which I bought from here and this is what I used (I think it makes her look like a chocolate rabbit).

I liked the pattern the only real difficulty was the long and skinny arms and legs which were not fun to turn right side out. I would definitely recommend using tube turners these made my life so much easier.

I also did not have any green coloured moss so I used some cut up strands of light green homespun.

I can't decide whether to hang her on the wall or have her sitting, I'm sure I will sort something out but I am enjoying moving her around until I get the right spot for her.

PS Anyone ever notice that whenever the sun shines it shows up the fact that you need to clean your windows - lol

I forgot to mention a beautiful gift that I received from my lovely hubby on Valentine's Day. We don't normally go overboard at this time of the year, usually just a card and small gift, so I was delighted whenever I unwrapped this beautiful little sewing themed box. It is just beautiful and so me! I can't help but keep looking at it. I just have to decide where is the best place to show it off. It also opens up to reveal a little storage area so I thought I would buy little vintage sewing items to keep in it.

Modern Accents Bag

I have had this pattern for a while now. I have previously made a bag from the pattern but unfortunately it was during one of my sewing machine glitches period and the stitching was so wonky, to say the least!

The fabric that I used, this time, was fabric that I had won from Buttonberry whenever I was taking part in one of their super Block of the Months. It was Joel Dewberry's Deer Valley and is in the most gorgeous colours and designs. It came together really quite quickly I actually think that the longest and hardest part was choosing which fabric to use.

Well here it, is the Modern Accents finished bag, I must say I just love it and I have had some really nice comments whenever I have carried it.

If you are looking for a super pattern with clear photos and instructions then you should take a look at Sweet Pea Totes. I definitely recommend her patterns and if you don't sew then she has gorgeous bags for you to buy and admire.

I know that there are so many fabulous designers out there, and I have many of their patterns, so I thought it may be a fun idea to sew some of these patterns up and let you know how I got on and to show you the end result.

Lapping it up .........

Yes, I know its a corny title but its the best I could come up with.

I have finally found my camera charger so I have some photos to share with you.

I made this lap quilt for my Dad, for Christmas! (unfortunately not finished until January) He is a very patient man, thank goodness, and I am pleased to say that he loves it.

I made it from an American Primer layer cake and used this pattern (you will need to scroll down near the bottom of the page to see it).

I couldn't leave my Mum out so I made her a lap quilt from this pattern called Lap Quilt in a Jiffy. Now, whenever it comes to quilts there is quilt language and there is Stephanie Quilt Language. So, whenever I see titles like 'Quilts in a Weekend' or 'Quilts in a Day' or 'in a Jiffy' this translates into Stephanie language as 'Lap Quilt in 6 weeks and quite possibly a lot longer' lol.

My Mum knows what I am like, and how slowly I quilt, but she loves the quilt so everyone is happy, until the next quick quilt I make.

I used a layer cake in 'Simplicity' it is lovely and flowery, something that my Mum likes, although the colours do look stronger than this in real life.

I simply machine quilted both quilts, I am dying to try and free motion quilt but I am so terrified of trying it my knees knock as I think about it. But, you never know some day I may surprise both you and me, I have bought the correct foot for my machine, but it looks so nice all packaged up in its little plastic box - sigh.

I have also slipped in another photo of my Mum's quilt just because I love how great quilts look all rolled up.

I can hardly believe it is 2010!

2009, at times, seemed to be never ending and at the same time it was gone in a flash. Looking back at 2009, it was a pretty good year, nothing too dramatic or traumatic (that I can remember) but lots of pleasurable memories and many new friends made.

One of the last swaps I took part in was the Crows and Roses Seasonal Swap. This Christmas I was making a special swap for Lisa. After many hours of 'What can I possibly make this talented lady? and then changing my mind half way through (why do I do that? lol). So eventually I made it through to completion and I finally made the decision to make Lisa a prim penguin postie and a homespun fabric tree. I really enjoyed making these and I hope Lisa enjoyed them too.

Within the same swap I was lucky to enough to have Debbie make a Christmas swap for me, and as I expected, I was not disappointed.

Debbie is a talented candle maker and made me a tray of wax melts in a gorgeous scent of 'Butter Cookies' - they smell good enough to eat! A beautiful pair of Pixie Boots, they look gorgeous sitting by my fire and two gorgeous Christmas tree ornaments which I promptly hung on my tree.

I feel very privileged to be a part of this talented group of artists and crafters, and I hope our little group of friends carries on for many years to come.

Starting to Feel Christmassy.....

I know its only just over a week until Christmas, but until the last day or two I haven't felt very festive. We have had a wonderful Nativity Play in school and that always helps to make me feel Christmassy. My one and only craft fair was last week, that went well, so now I feel that I can now relax and finish a few (who am I kidding!) handmade gifts and also put the finishing touches to my Crows and Roses Christmas Swap. The reason I haven't posted it to my swap partner yet is because I changed my mind completely about what I wanted to make more than half way through fnishing the first. I'm terrible at things like that, if I don't like what I am making then nothing will make me finish it, so it has gone to a box to join my other half finished craft items. I will post a photo of that swap as soon as my partner has received it (and I have finished it lol).

I have also been involved in another swap, the Christmas Ornament Swap, and I have been very fortunate to be partnered with a lovely patient (I will explain later) lady in Norway. We both posted our gifts to each other on the same day, within 3 days I received May Kristin's beautifully handstitched gifts. They are so very lovely, they were also wrapped in a beautiful bag with polka dot ribbon (in my haste and excitement to open it I forgot to take photos of the packaging).

As I said she is a very patient lady as there is still no sign of my handstitched gift arriving in Norway. I am so very disappointed and very frustrated with the postal system. It is now over two weeks since I posted it, so today I decided enough was enough and I posted her another gift, as it is not fair that she should miss out on the swap. I have fingers, toes, knees crossed that she will receive this gift at least in time for Christmas. Oh the joys of our wonderful postal system, next time I think I will use pigeon post lol!

This is my swap gift from May Kristin isn't it beautiful. I know it is supposed to be an ornament swap for the Christmas tree but I love them hanging on my mantelpiece, at each end, as she was kind enough to send me two - THANK YOU MAY KRISTIN, I really hope your gift arrives with you soon.

Busy, Busy, Busy .......

Wow, doesn't time fly at this time of year. Sorry for my absence but I am busy sewing and making for a Christmas Fair coming up on the 8th December.

This is how most surfaces in my house look like at the moment ...

There are half stuffed bodies, fabrics in all colours cut and folded, me going grey in the process lol.

Stitching Angel Gift Received......Wow!

I was so excited whenever I returned from a little bit of shopping yesterday. Guess what was sitting on my doorstep with a green customs sticker attached? I just knew it was from my Secret Stitching Angel from America! I rushed inside (yes, I know I am such a big kid lol)and just about stopped ripping the parcel before I grabbed my camera. Inside where the most lovely of gifts, I can't thank you enough, thank you Liz.

So much thought, time and sewing has gone into these THANK YOU LIZ. Every single thing is gorgeous. The rose embroidered bag is fab and such a great size I know I will get lots of use from this. The blue needle case is gorgeous, the blue outside fabric is a suede fabric, so soft I can't stop stroking it lol. A beautiful pillow with stitching and peach ribbon roses, and speaking of roses there was a little bag of dried rose petals and lavender, all from Elizabeth' garden! A beautiful embroidered scissor keep, funky buttons and some trim. Then there was a little fabric brooch with stitching and ribbon embroidery, I think that will definitely be going on my coat.

A big thank you goes to Helen for organising this great swap. This is my second year as a Stitching Angel and I have my fingers crossed there will be one next year.

I am so pleased to say that my two latest swap gifts have survived their travels with Royal Mail and the strikes.

The first one delivered was to my lovely friend Kaz from Crows and Roses. Now this swap was to have an Autumnal theme, whoops sorry, I didn't really follow that rule bit! The fabric I chose simply said 'use me!' how could I not - and I love it! The bag is made from a pattern by Keykalou and I must say I did enjoy sewing it up. I love poppies anyway and I hope that Kaz does too! I also included a mini witches hat as it is almost Hallowe'en, I hope that makes up for my lack of Autumnal influences with the bag.

In return I received from Kaz a most fabulous Autumn gift, I cannot believe how perfect the colours are for my room, I couldn't have picked better myself. I have them sitting on my mantlepiece and I think that I will probably keep them out all year (I'm one of those awful people that doesn't care what time of the year it is, if I like something then its on display all year round - psst don't tell anyone lol). Along with the lovely boxes she also made me a beautiful heart shaped needle case - perfect for me and in my favourite shape, hearts ! THANK YOU KAZ!

My next delivery was an international one all the way to America. I can't believe how quickly it arrived, just one week to the day that I posted it. I have had to wait for post from England longer than that! It was to Ruth who was my receiving partner in the Secret Stitching Angel Swap. I always worry that things can go missing in the post but I can now relax they are all in the right place with the right people. I enjoyed being your partner Ruth, thank you.

Speaking of swaps! I have just signed up for another international swap for a Handmade Christmas Tree Ornament Swap over at Daisy Quilts. This is a lovely one to take part in, you have to make a 5" handmade Christmas Tree ornament and a Christmas card. The sign up deadline isn't until 1 November so you still have time to sign up is you would like to join in.

Also thank you to all those sympathetic people who have had troubles with scissors, I don't feel so alone! I have now purchased a lovely new shiny and sharp pair of scissors, and they are hidden away lol!

Secret Stitching Angel

I got my little machine back, at last! yayyyy!!

However, it did take me some time to get my sewing mojo back, but its back and I am sewing away again.

I was very behind with my Secret Stitching Angel projects but they are all now packaged and ready to be posted tomorrow to America, fingers crossed they don't get caught up in the strike!!

It took me a while to decide what to make (no change there lol) but I finally decided on a fabric journal cover, a needle case, and a little drawstring bag. I also added into my parcel a bar of Cadburys chocolate (hope she likes chocolate), some shamrock seeds and a little teacher pin (as she is a teacher).

I can't reveal her whereabouts until I know that she has received them. I do hope she likes them, am I the only worrier about whether or not my swap partner will like what I have made her ?

I have also just finished my other swap gift for a good friend from the Crows and Roses group. I can't post a photo yet just in case she is watching, but again I am more than a little nervous about this, its a little bit different in style for me, but fingers crossed she will like it.

TOP TIP OF THE DAY

You know whenever you have a favourite pair of scissors (you know the ones I mean) that you keep just for cutting fabric, not one cut of paper is allowed - purely and simply for the precious fabric from my stash.

Well, keep yours hidden, even under lock and key! Especially if you have a music, guitar mad son (take a deep breath - in, out keep calm!) takes and them and wait for it (more controlled breathing) CUTS HIS GUITAR STRINGS WITH THEM! Can you believe it, I was almost beyond words as I chewed my way very unsuccessfully through my beloved fabric - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But you will be impressed, I kept my head and I calmly told him don't worry it was no big problem, but if it happened again I would not be responsible for my actions!!!! ROFL

Yep, you've guessed it! STILL NO SEWING MACHINE! Its getting critical now, I have the shaking hands, the sweats - no I'm only joking, but yes I seriously miss my sewing machine! I have my fingers, toes and knees crossed that she comes back to me this week.

So I have no new projects to show you but here is a selection that I have sewed, pre repair, over the summer - enjoy!

I needed a pincushion, as the one I had was really past it, so I thought I would try Portabellopixie's Cupcake Pin Cushion pattern. There were 2 options, high calorie version (large) or the low calorie version (small) - no contest really, I am a high calorie kinda girl - lol.

Has It Really Been That Long? .......

I can hardly believe it has been so long since I posted, apologies, but there has been a lot going on.

I am back to work again, after a few weeks break, broken my sewing machine again!, won a few giveaways, taken part in a summer swap, become a Secret Stitching Angel, been crafting like mad and working on something that I can't tell you about yet, but I am very excited about it, more about that later!.

As you may or may not know I belong to a very talented group of ladies Crows and Roses and we have great fun sharing and enjoying each others talents in a seasonal swap. I can't tell you how excited, privileged and totally overwhelmed I was to receive my swap from Sharon. Sharon is a very talented painter and a lovely friend too. Just feast your eyes on these gorgeous pictures which I now have hanging on my wall for everyone to admire - thank you so much Sharon. Sharon also sells on Not on the High Street go check out her shop its really fab!

In return I made Sharon a reversible bag in Tanya Whelan's Barefoot Roses (Sharon has a passion for roses so I thought this fabric range would suit her down to the ground) the pattern also by Tanya Whelan called Ava. I also tried something a little different for me and made Sharon a glass tile pendant with a rose theme, of course!

Has it really been a year of my random ramblings and the odd photograph thrown in?

I hope I haven't bored too many people but I would like to say a very big thank you to each and everyone of you who have come to visit me at my little spot in Blogland.

I have made some wonderful friends and been to so many countries in Blogland, learned so many new things, laughed with people, shared with people. The world is such a big place but its nice to feel a part of things and that really I can be in any place in the world with only just a click.

The lady I have to thank (or is that to blame) for encouraging me to inflict myself on you all is Sheila from Australia. Sheila was my Secret Stitching Angel 2008 and as I didn't have a blog then Sheila encouraged me to start one and here I am. Thank you Sheila for introducing me to the world of blogging and holding my hands in the early days.

Secret Stitching Angel 2009

I can hardly believe that it is almost a year since I took part in the Stitching Angel 2008 - wow! I had the best time participating in this swap and the best Stitching Angel Sheila who stitched for me. The angel that I stitched for was Tomi who lived in USA, who doesn't have a blog but we caught up with each other the other day by email.

The projects are fabulous, so even if you don;t take part in the swap you can still download and make the projects - this year the theme is roses - I love roses!

Old Red Barn Co Quilt Along..some progress at last!

This is the update on the Old Red Barn Co Quilt Along with Dana, I am running a little behind time (I know how surprising - lol)but I am slowly catching up. I have finally sewn all my blocks together (each block measured 12.5" x 12.5") and I think I like the finished result. I was worried about some of the colour choices I had made, but seeing it all sewn together I definitely feel that most of them work.

I think I will surprise a few people by my bold colour choices and patterns. These fabrics are typically more of the kind of style that I use in making my bags but I think I am loving them.

I just have to decide now on whether or not to add a border, I think I will, but not sure what yet! I also have to have a rumage through my fabrics and come up with something for the backing. I have a few blocks left that I didn't use in the quilt front so I may incorporate some of those with some large blocks of fabric, I'll wait and see. Another question I have is how to quilt it. I have hand quilted before, and I have straight line quilted before but I have yet to try my hand at free motion quilting. I have ordered a quilting foot for my machine in case I feel brave. I will keep you updated on my progress.

I have really enjoyed sewing this and the thing that I have enjoyed the most is the individuality and creativity that has become very apparent. We all started with the same set of instructions, and yet every single one has become an individual work of art and every one so different. I am amazed by the creativity and love of colour and pattern that is so very evident and the love of creating. First of all I won a giveaway from Flair for Fabric all the way from Montreal, Canada. It is one of Amy Butler's newest patterns, and guess what its not a bag pattern or even fabric, its a pattern for a tunic, top or short dress! Look at this beautiful pattern isn't it fab! I have also had the pleasure to have previously ordered fabric from this lovely selleralso. I can't tell you which fabric as it has been bought as a surprise for someone so I can't reveal any more at the moment. This seller has great customr service and is super helpful, go take a look at her yummy fabrics.

I took part in a really great overseas swap on the theme of F-R-I-E-N-D-S. We were all given a swap partner that we had to send some little items that started with the letters of the word friends.

Sea Bangor Weekend

Last weekend Bangor, N Ireland, held its annual Sea Bangor Festival. The weather, as usual, was wet, thundery and really quite cloudy. It is a lovely event which also helps to showcase local food specialities in a large marquee giving everyone the chance of sample something new. I had a lovely plate of paella, not very local but I love paella!

It is also a time to support our local coastguard and lifeboat crews who do invaluable work keeping everyone safe on our waters.

There was a special tent to keep the kiddies entertained, a beer tent, model boats and also a tent with local entertainers and storytellers telling us of life in the good old days.

Along the pier we had a tall ship which took people around the bay, entertainers of various descriptions and also some local crafts people demonstrating fly fish tying and a particular favourite of mine making baskets by hand.

Coming up Roses........

I love the summertime! I am so much more motivated and energetic than in the dark and cold months of the year.

One of the things that I also love about the summer is roses. The following photos are of a cutting from my Grandmother's rose, which she originally planted over 70 years. I just love the colour, and I am afraid to admit it but I actually do very little with it. It is a climbing rose, I think, well it looks lovely against my fence, which isn't so lovely. I don't know the variety of the rose, if anyone can hazard a guess I would be very grateful. I always cut some blooms for my Dad as it was his mother's rose and I know it reminds him of her and his childhood.

I also think there is a little invasion of greenfly on it. I don't always like to spray with chemical sprays, if anyone has any greener/more organic options I would love to hear them along with any other rose growing tips. I vaguely remember my Grandmother telling me about spraying them with water and a few drops of washing up liquid, but I'm not entirely sure I could be mistaken.

The Summer is Here.....

It has been the most lovely sunny weekend, here in the UK. Dare I say it but I think that summer has arrived, and fingers crossed it lasts longer than last year, it felt like winter started from about July onwards last year - not good!

I love my garden, but unforutnately don't spend nearly enough time weeding and cultivating. So although I do have some lovely shurbs and roses in the garden, in the summer I like to plant up little pots and then I can move them to fill in the gaps around the garden.

Now onto crafty matters! I have finished a baby quilt for hubby's cousin's little baby boy and I really love the colours in it (sorry the photograph does not do the fabric justice), so fresh and a bit of a change from the usual pastels. I got it from the girls at Buttonberry they really are very helpful and this is a lovely kit from them - I hope she likes it.

Also on this sunny Sunday it is my nephews 3rd Birthday and I always like to make them something, even if it is small. His older brother was 8 in February and I made him this felt pen holder so I have made a suitable 3 yr old version. I just love the fabric in this and I thought I would use some felt on the inside to hold the chunky pencils instead of fabric, not sure if it will last but time will tell. Our family will all be meeting for a bbq at my sisters house this afternoon, for the birthday, so I must liberally apply suncream to my lily white skin, as I don't want to look like a lobster tomorrow!

Tonight I plan to cut out my fabrics for Dana's online quilt along, as tomorrow the first of the sewing starts, and I really do plan to have a quilt to show you all in a few weeks time.

So Excited........

Well, I didn't win the fabulous quilt in my last post or any of the gorgeous bag patterns, sigh, but at least I can buy the patterns and make my own!

On the other hand I am very excited to be taking part in Dana's On line Quilt Along. I have actually surprised myself by using fabric from my stash - this is very much a first and I think my hubby is in shock also. But that is too good to be true as I did have to order some fabric for the binding. There is a real assortment of fabrics in my selection, but all have the blue and brown theme, and they are also not usually patterns and colours that I would put together but Dana makes beautiful quilts with stunning patterns and colours so I just took the plunge - fingers crossed they will work!

This is the Kaffe Fasset fabric I have ordered for the binding.

Now according to Dana this quilt will be ready in 6 weeks. I hope Dana realises that I am not good with dead lines but I hope to try and keep to our schedule, so give me a nudge if you see me falling behind.

I think that this is the quilt that we will be making, doesn't it look fab! There is also a Flickr Group set up to see everyones fabric selection, progress and finished quilt, take a look if you love fabrics, some of the fabrics are so yummy.

A Little Jelly

Phew! I can't believe it has been so long since I last blogged. As usual my life has been busy, busy, busy! I have been on another fabric buying frenzy!!!! But, it was such a good price that I would have been a fool not to buy it (lol) now I just need to decide what to sew with it.

I have also treated myself to my first ever Jelly Roll and also a matching layer cake! I have looked at these so many times and thought they looked great but not sure what to do with them. So now that I have them in my sticky little hands I had to buy a pattern of course.

It makes me giggle whenever I think about the jelly roll all I keep thinking about is the skipping rhyme we used to sing back in the Olden Days (as my kids call it!).

Jelly on a plate, jelly on a plate, wibbly, wobbly, jelly on a plate :)

The pattern I bought looks pretty straight forward and I'm sure I will get around to it some time soon!

A Funky Bag?

I can now reveal the bag I made for my swap partner Lisa, as she has now received it safely and I think she likes it. The photos aren't great but this will give you an idea of what it looked like.

I really love the fabrics in this one, the black background with the lovely girls on it is 'yui kokeshi' by Alexander Henry and the inside is wallflower in cherry by Amy Butler. I used the Swing Bag pattern by Amy Butler, I love this pattern as the moment. Also as a little extra I made a little bunny bowl filler as Easter has just passed.

Are you ready for your eyes to be dazzled? I have been on a bag making frenzy (!) and I used fabrics that I happened to have around and some of them are pretty bright. I have been trying to experiment with different styles of bags and I think I know the ones that I will be making again and also the ones that, ahem, I will put down to experience.

I was also lucky enough to win a giveaway from Pink and Barbara this was a beautiful stitchery pattern and a drawstring bag. I had already purchased a basket pattern from Barbara and it is perfect for all those unfinished block of the month patterns and fabrics that I have yet to catch up on. Thank you Barbara.

Speaking of unfinished Block of the Month patterns, you will be glad to know that I seem to be stock piling them for future enjoyment or possibly the torment of having to look at so many unfinished projects. Its not that I dont want to finish them but I have this huge obstacle in my life that restricts the amount of time I have to be creative. This huge obstacle is called 'my job', I do enjoy my job and my work colleagues are some of the best I've ever worked with, and I need the money to buy yet more fabric but if they would just send me my wages and leave me at home to sew and create I would be a very happy bunny!!! LOL

I have just finished my Spring Swap gift for my Ebay group Crows and Roses so I hope my swap partner enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it (I can't post a picture until my partner receives it). It also means that something really lovely will hopefully be making its way to me soon as well. I love these swaps with this group as they really are the most supportive, creative and friendly people that you could ever wish to meet, I count myself very lucky to be a member.

Don't you just love Amy Butler, if you looked at my stash you would see just how much I did!

It was a friend's birthday last week and I thought what will I make? I knew she would love Amy Butler - right! So I made her this bag and I think she liked it.

It is made from theSwing Pattern by Amy Butler, although I didn't use the sash bow that she has tied onto hers in the photo. I used this lovely Amy Butler fabric called Lotus Lacework and the inside is Lotus Pink Wallflower fabric, did I mention that this bag is totally reversible too! I really like this fabric and also the pattern, I think I will be making more for gifts.

As last week was Mothers Day I made my Mum a little family souvenir. It is a music cd tin that had a hole drilled in the top. Inside, instead of cd's, I cut circular pieces of card the same size as the cd's and on each page there was a photograph or a cute little family saying. I was lucky enough to make this on a Scrapbooking Day with my local scrapbooking crop 'Scrap Angels' which was held to raise money for Abanna a very worthwhile cause and it was also a great excuse to scrap all day.

I have some other projects in hand but more about those later in the week.

A Lovely New Award

Thank you Jane at Spreading the Faerie Dust for giving me this fabulous award. I met Jane through her Aunt Sheila who was my Secret Stitching Angel all the way from Australia. Every time I check her blog she has completed the most stunning cross stitch, cushions and is now conquering the world of patchwork. I am always amazed at how quickly she can work and produce gorgeous creations, go check out her blog.

Vintage Times

My mum gave me some vintage cards, I think they are mostly from the 30's era, and I thought I would share some with you. They are so lovely and have obviously been stored in a thoughtful manner, in that they are crease free and the colours are as bright as they were when they were sent. I just wish you could feel and see the quality of the card and paper and the detail in the pictures, they are a real joy to look at.

Some of the cards are obviously a bit posher and have the senders name and also the year printed on them (1939).

I know how important being green and recycling is to save our precious planet, but how many of us recycle our old Christmas cards in our home recycling bins or special collection points in shopping centres. There are many tv shows and books at the moment encouraging us all to declutter, streamline and organise our life so that we no longer hang onto things we don't use on a daily basis. One thing I do wonder is, will there be anything left to look back on in future years, like these wondeful vintage cards, or will they be gone forever.

A New Bag and Other Bits and Bobs....

I thought that I had not been very busy this week but whenever I looked at the photographs I had taken, I thought well maybe I didn't do too bad.

The first thing I sewed was a new pattern for a bag. I used some of the lovely lilac fabric by Jennifer Paginelli for the bag with a pale pink lining. However, there is a slight problem with it - I didn't have the right interfacing for my fabric it was much too heavy and stiff. This has resulted in, what I can only describe as, a crunchy bag lol. I have now bought some of the correct weight and I think I will try it again as I quite like the shape. I like bags for real women, who like me carry everything they will need and much more, including the kitchen sink!

This is maybe a little premature in the year, but it is a lovely !little soft case for your sunglasses. Did you notice the quirky position of the button? Maybe not so quirky I just didn't pay attention to where I was starting to sew the button hole but I think I will stick with calling it quirky rather than a mistake.

This is a little felt pen roll that I made for my nephew's birthday, who will be 8 on Saturday. Do you think the fabric is manly enough? I know its not too cool to have your Auntie make you something for your 8th birthday but I hope this passes the coolness test.

PS did you ntoice that these were all photographed outside - surely this means that Spring is on its way, fingers crossed.

PPS I haven't forgotten about the giveaway - I'm still thinking about what to make.

First of all I would like to say thank you for your kind messages of 'Get Well'. I am feeling so much better so once again thank you.

I think that we seem to be the only area in the UK not to have any snow this week. Sure we have had frost and some sleet and freezing temperatures but the snow seems to have stopped about 10 miles from here. I like the snow but only whenever I can have fun in it, watch it from the fireside with a lovely hot cup of tea, I don't like to drive in it.

Well, last post I said I had some good news, and I do! Firstly I got my sewing machine back, and with being ill last week I didn't even plug it in! I plan to make up for that this week. My machine is pretty basic with no bells or whistles but we understand each other (most of the time) and I hope we have many more years together sewing (basically because I cant afford to replace her just yet!).

The other piece of good news is that I won a giveaway last week yippee! They are the most stunning pair of handcrafted sliver heart earrings. They are gorgeous and I can't wait to wear them. They were kindly given away Joanne Tinley of Daisychain Jewellery Aren't they exquisite? I love silver jewellery so these are just perfect for me. I had a look around her online store and she has jewellery that you know you just have to have, go and have a look you wont be dissapointed. Thank you so much Joanne for your genorosity and wow I love your jewellery.

These earrings made me think about having a giveaway of my own, but I will think about it a little more and let you know what I decide.

Just a quick post to say that I have succumbed to the dreaded sneezing, headache, sore throat, aching muscles etc. I did have the flu injection, so I hope it wont last too long!

I came across this on Maygreen Fairies and as I am still missing my sewing machine (apparently everyone in N Ireland is having their sewing machine serviced en mass and in the same shop, and theres a bit of a backlog - lol). Wuthering Heights .......

I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else or not, but, you know whenever a range of fabric just speaks to you that you must have it no matter what - this fabric range just appeals to me so much - I love it! I had actually forgotten that I had it, as it had been put away in a drawer so that I wouldn't actually cut it up by accident and far as I can remember its out of print now, so I didn't want to waste an inch of it.

I had this pattern in my stash and thought it would be perfect (it uses a charm pack or 5" squares), as I also had a charm pack of this fabric range as well (I did tell you that the fabric spoke to me to buy it - didn't I!). So I have started cutting out my fabric in preparation for making this quilt which I think I will hang on my wall behind the bed as the finished size will be about 42" x 42". I have also seen a lovely free pattern, on the net, for a bed size quilt and I think I should have enough for that - if only I could remember where I saw it - lol.

It has been a while since I did any quilting, and I know that I really should be sewing up some bags, but this project has just grabbed me and I have missed quilting. Well, I suppose the old saying is true 'A change is as good as a rest'.
